in my case it was win2k hiding the file ext pointed out by Adam.
solarwinds works a treat.

It is maybe a windows hiding the file extension thing.
I bet that the file on your hard disk is "xyz.bin.bin" not "xyz.bin"
check your explorer settings - or look at the files in a cmd box
