I don't think Cisco has any 12.2 images for Catalysts yet. (Maybe for the
brand new switches, like the 3700s, not sure about those). But they do put
some 12.2 features in the 12.1 switch images, like NBAR on the 6500s. I
believe the reason is that the switches rely on the hardware ASICs to
accomplish most functions. While it's easy to add features to a router, and
let the processor deal with it if necessary, on a L3 switch that's capable
of 100x the throughput, they don't want a poorly-chosen configuration
bringing the switch to it's knees.

Subject: 12.2 for Catalyst 3550
Hello Team,
I was wondering if anyone might know when 12.2 will be released for 3550 or
if
it is already released for Catalyst. The reason I ask is that with the new
CCIE exam that will be goin g to 12.2, I am assuming that this will include
the Catalyst 3550. However, the Documenation Cd, only shows 12.1. Again is
there an image of 12.2 that I can download of purchase for the Catalyst
3550.
thanks again guys for all of your help.
Sincerely,
Matijevic
