Hi curtis,
 
If :
 
loopback on switch 2 is 4.4.4.4
 
switch 1 should have the knowledge of reaching this (L3 capability). you can put a simple static route in switch 1 and make it reachable on switch 2.
 
withouth layer 3 knowledge it cant !!!
