If something is not absolutely necessary for your lab objective to work dont
do it. You dont want to waste your time because time is the most critical
factor in the Lab. Use the least lines possible to achieve your objective.
For example regarding your second question
Instead of this:
router rip
passive-interface fa0/0
passive-interface s0/0
passive-interface s0/1
passive-interface bri0/0
Use this:
router rip
passive-interface default
no passive-interface fa0/1
