When to translate is easy.
If the given MAC address is in canonical (Ethernet) format, and you want to
reference it in a DLSw command --- translate.
So IF the given MAC addess is the MAC address of an Ethernet NIC card, and
you want to reference it in a DLSw statement -- convert it to its'
non-canonical equivalent.
Note -- for observation purposes, look at the "reachability" parameters on a
router running DLSw --- all of the Ethernet NICs you see there have already
been converted by the DLSw process of the router.

Subject: MAC Translation when using DLSW
Group,
One of the things I stuggle with is when to, and when not to,
translate a given MAC address in a question. If the question states
"Ensure that R2 never sends explorers for 4000.4000.4000, which is the
only resource available through R4" (IPExpert - Lab 35).
What is the golden rule regarding this ? BTW. The answer to the above
is 0200.0200.0200....
Thanks,
Ingo
