I've been wanting to post this "I've passed" message a long, long time. I've
been studying for my CCIE for around 3 years. Went through the CCNA, CCDA,
CCNP, CCDP, and then realized that they were only a small fraction of what was
needed to pass the CCIE exam. I did not "pass the lab on my first attempt" or
only study a few months to prepare for it. I feel like many of the CCIE topics
are ingrained in my head like a ROM chip and are no longer erasable due to
constant repetition and studying them so long.

I could have never finished the certification without a huge amount of support
from my wife, Mary. She has been so supportive that she has even learned much
of the material with me and read parts of some of the CCIE study manuals so
that we could discuss and review them to help me learn as well as do practice
labs together in our home lab with me.

My friend Bernard Omrani has been a constant mentor, study partner, and source
of encouragement. Occasionally insisting that I take a break to go to a comedy
club or come over for dinner when he saw that it was driving me crazy. Other
study friends David S., Gordon, David B, and Mike L. kept reviewing practice
labs and motivating me to work harder.

Finally CyscoExpert has the best CCIE class around. The class is actually more
of an individualized study program and customized for each person. Their labs
are more difficult than the actual lab and geared to make you think like a
CCIE. I began to see issues immediately when looking over a scenario after
attending their class. Bahram is a great teacher as well as a great person to
deal with. I wish I could learn customer service skills from him as well as
Cisco skills. If you have studied a long time (as I have) and nearing the end
of your CCIE studying (as I was - one way or the other), then CyscoExpert is
the place to go. Bahram, Brian, Peter, Tom, Naren, and Mitch are all CCIEs and
each contributes slightly different special skills that they have to their
students. Bacho was also a great help at CyscoExpert and I'm sure that he will
soon be a CCIE also.

Groupstudy has been a fantastic tool to help study. I do not post very often
but I read many of the topics here and then review them in the documentation
CD or Jeff Doyle Volume I or II. These are my recommendations for new CCIE
candidates: Read Jeff Doyle Volume 1 and Volume 2. Purchase IPExpert practice
labs, build a home lab and spend a lot of time on it. Then review everything
as needed on the Cisco Documentation CD. Prior to taking the lab go to
CyscoExpert. You will find out how much you "don't know" while at CyscoExpert.
Depending on your experience and length of study time additional visits to
CyscoExpert might be helpful.

Happy routing and switching,
Tim Ross
