Nonsense - you aren't screwed. You just need to practice a more careful
method of configuring and troubleshooting. You should add one thing at a
time and test it after adding. Get everything working first and THEN
apply authentication. This applies to ISDN, OSPF, or any technology. If
the link dies after you add authentication you don't even need debug to
tell you that authentication is the problem.

And once you have configured it in your lab 10 or 20 times you will have
seen most of the common mistakes and be on guard against them.
