Hi Barry,
I use it only on routers which have both an IBGP peer and EBGP peer
simultaneously - and then ONLY IF the link between the EBGP peers is not
being advertised into the IGP either directly or via redistribution.

In other words, If the IBGP peers don't know how to get to the subnet of the
remote peer then you need to next hop self.
