Unerstood.. since you dont want R2 to send a default route to R1 but still see LSA type 7's and not type5's. You could then just configure: area 12 nssa without the no-redistribution ,and control what external routes get redistributed as type 7's so they dont appear as type 5's by using the "summary-address not-advertise" command under the ospf process. This statement generates a type 7 LSA that won't be translated into type 5 by the NSSA ABR. Not sure if this fulfills the requirements of the lab scenario, since I dont have the lab in front of me, just throwing out ideas...
