Hello all,

I am confused about Be also. I have found several references on the Cisco
web site which say that Be = (Port speed - CIR)*Tc. On page 66 of the
Networkers 2002 CCIE Power Session slides, they had configured Be = (Port
speed - CIR). Which one is correct? There have been several threads on this
topic but I do not know if this has ever been resolved conclusively.

Examples from the Cisco web site:

1.
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios122/122cgcr/fwan
_r/frcmds/wrffr3.htm#1029750
If you see the link above, it states that peak rate is CIR + EIR = CIR +
Be/Tc. Therefore, if peak rate equals port speed, Be = (Port speed -
CIR)*Tc.

2.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk713/tk237/technologies_configuration_examp
le09186a00800942f8.shtml
In the above example, Be has been configured as (Port speed - CIR)*TC, that
is (192000 - 64000)*(1/8)

Thanks,

Andy

Subject: FRTS

This is my understanding.

Tc = Bc/CIR
Bc = CIR/8 (this is for 125msec) or CIR/10 (this is for 10msec - VOICE) Be =
????????????

I have seen an opinion in that (Be = port speed minus CIR)

So if in the lab I have a task in which the CIR is less than the AR should I
use the above formula for Be or should I use another formula?

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/125/traffic_shaping_6151.html

"Configure Be only if the Frame Relay CIR value is less than the AR. For
PVCs carrying voice packets, the Be must be set to zero to ensure best
possible voice quality."

Thank You,
Scott
