Do you know where this is documented on CCO? In particular, I'd be interested in the version which introduced this change.

Not that I don't believe you ..... I've seen this myself! :)

Eariler IOS automatically generate a 0.0.0.0/0 if a static default route
exists. However, Cisco made a feature change so we now have to tell the RIP
explicitly by using the redistribute static command.
