Hi,
I've scoured all the possible documentation I could get my hands on but am
unable to find an answer to a specfic question. Unfortunately, I don't have
this kit at hand to try it out! Also, because of the place I am currently
working at, they don't have any long term relationships with any Cisco
partners who may be able to test this scenario for me.
I was hoping that someone on this list may have come across a similar
situation and more importantly, have a definitive answer!
I am considering install a 16 port EtherSwitch module (NM-16ESW) into the
Cisco 3745 Router. I need to run NAT/HSRP/CB-WFQ on these interfaces and
essentially need to know if the 16-port card supports full IP features. I've
read on certain documents that this module does support IP routing
(RIP/OSPF/EIGRP) and the obvious association of physical ports being assigned
to VLAN interfaces to which i can assign layer 3 information. However,
assigning IP addresses is not enough! I really need to know if i can treat
these interfaces as 'normal' fasthethernet interfaces and not standard switch
ports.
For the people who have worked on 6509's it is easy to assign physical ports
to VLANs and the assign ALL layer 3 commands to these logocal interfaces. Can
the same be done with a Cisco 3745 router and NM-16ESW?
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Raj
