Create another SVI on the 3550, say VLAN20 and put port 2 of 3550 in VLAN 1
[ default ].

Put 140.11.12.1 / 24 on VLAN1 on 3550 and I would think R2 could ping
140.10.1.7 since in

3550 they are both C - connected routes. Have you tried this yet?
