The only difference between the 3550-SMI and 3550-EMI is the image. They
are the same hardware, but you should license the code upgrade from
Cisco.

These E-bay SMI units with EMI code are probably unlicensed.

OK.more to the point.I got the Cisco price list and it has several makes
of the 3550:

WS-C3550-24-SMI
24-10/100 and 2 GBIC ports:Std Multilayer SW Image

WS-C3550-24-DC-SMI
24-10/100+2GBIC ports(DC-Pwrd):Standard Multilayer SW Image

WS-C3550-24-FX-SMI
24-100FX MMF+2GBIC ports:Standard Multilayer SW Image

WS-C3550-24-EMI
24-10/100 and 2 GBIC ports:Enhanced Multilayer SW Image

What I want to know is.what is the difference b/w having a 355-24-SMI
(with EMI image) as opposed to have a 3550-24-EMI (with EMI image).

I am curious if these sellers on Ebay are selling the SMI.

Subject: Is one 3550 sufficient?

I am considering purchasing a 3550 off of ebay and would like any
advice. Some of the auctions list a Cisco 3550 24 port with EMI image.
From reading the IPExpert 3550 tutorial, this is the one I want as it
has all the capabilities. However, I remember seeing some warnings from
individuals on the mailing list explaining of the ebay auctions.

Also, the IPExpert lab only has one, so I would assume that one 3550 in
my lab would be sufficient. Any feedback is appreciated.
