I agree with you Joe. If you don't have the cash on hand to purchase
equipment, you can either scrounge equipment from your employer or rent
rack time.
If you've got $5000 in the bank, though, you can set yourself up with a
good testbed and buy all the books you need. When you get your CCIE,
sell all your equipment and get most, if not all, of your money back.
If you rely soleley on rack rentals for your studying, you could end up
blowing twice the amount and have nothing to show for it end the end
(not even a CCIE #).
