RE: OT:Cyscoexpert and NLI Experiences - NLI!

There's never a guarantee for any of these things. However, a lot of
the outcome for the bootcamps depends as much on the instructor as it
does on the students. If the instructor is just "this is what we cover,
if you don't understand it's not my fault because you didn't meet the
pre-requisites", then you are correct, it could be a waste of money.

On the other hand if you instructor has a lot of experience,
particularly as being a good trainer, then even people "not quite to
par" for the pre-requisites can still gain a positive experience from
the bootcamp. A bootcamp should NOT be taking you from CCNA to CCIE
level in a week or two. If it is handled this way, or perceived this
way, then you aren't accomplishing anything and even if you pass the lab
it's a huge disservice to yourself and the community.

If people have attended bootcamps and can't pass up to this day,
something is missing. Perhaps the fault of the bootcamp, perhaps the
fault of the instructor, or perhaps just the fault of the candidate.
Not everyone is equally trainable! In case we hadn't noticed, this is
some complicated and often convoluted stuff we're playing with!

Weigh the options, look at both the bootcamp structure (labs, equipment,
etc.) but also look hard at the instructor. With ANY course you take,
this is the piece that can make or break the experience.

Scott

PS. I am the instructor for NLI's CCIE R&S Bootcamp. So if you have
any questions or want to discuss it further, feel free to e-mail me. If
there are any questions on my experience, check out
http://smorris.uber-geek.net or e-mail me! :) All spam-like advertising
aside, there are many choices out there, so a lot of options should be
weighed by students. Every piece of the experience will help get you to
the point that you want to be at!

Okay,
How come we NEVER hear from people who attend bootcamps and up to this
day still can't pass the lab? What I'm saying is that there has to be
some kind of "Pre-assessment" test/lab for potential customers so they
know whether they're going to really benefit from these bootcamps or
just waste their precious dollars.

Personally, if I was running a bootcamp, I'd SCREEN my "students" so
they don't go out to the public criticizing my training program for not
getting what it's designed to accomplish. I know there is NO guarantee
in these bootcamps.

I'm sure there are a lot of potential customers on this list who have
the same reservations on spending a couple thousand dollars.

My 2 cents.
