I've seen many similiar comments on this problem.

I am curious about a BGP parameter that might relate to this.

In router config mode for the BGP process there is a command:

bgp client-to-client (for communication between route reflector clients)

does anyone have experience with this command?
what is its' special purpose?

This cannot be resolved without changing IGP's or removing IBGP. The sooner
Cisco stops testing on this (assuming by all the questions that they are)
the better.
