Hunt,

I always use spid numbers and dialer map in ISDN.
The dialer string is more for dialer profiles.

The first thing I configure when I am working with
ISDN is the spid numbers. Actually here is the
sequence:

1. Configure switch type
2. configure spid numbers while BRI interface is shut
down.
3. NO SHUT the BRI interface
4 Test with "sho isdn status" to make sure your spid
numbers and the connection to the simulator (or tel
company) are good.
5. Then you can configure IP address, encapsulation,
authentication, dialer map, etc.
