I think you will find that XP doesn't support NetBEUI, however does support
NETBIOS. It stills needs to support NETBIOS for backwards compatibility in a
M$ world. NETBIOS is the way that XP will resolve names of other machines on
its network when you have downlevel legacy clients like Windows 95/98/NT4.
If you set up another machine running Windows 95 or the like in the same
work group or domain as your XP machine then your XP will use NETBIOS to try
to discover the other device.
