Just to clarify, you can't plug an IP phone into an FXS port, as you say
you did in the original message. FXS ports are only for analog phones,
but I assume you already know that.

Another point, the Cisco IP phone is a 3 port switch, not a hub, and
that is a very important distinction.

Not sure about hardware compatability here.

Cisco phone is a digital device. I call it, in it's barebone form as, 3
port ethernet hub + a headset + voice analog to digital + some cool
features :)

Also we need a voice-gateway and a call manager. Also most of the times
it is connected to 3550 ethernet ports
