Cisco IP phone by default will set the CoS field to 5 which is priority. An
UN-encapsulated packet does not have such field - CoS. Not sure, with
non-cisco switches but Cisoc switches will look at this packet if you
configured QoS on it to either trust the CoS or not trust it. Trusting it
would not chagne the CoS value, not trusting it would set it to 0, which is
the same as not having any CoS value. makes sense?
BTW, Cisco IP Phone if connected to a cisco switch that is configured with
auxiliary vlan or vlan vlan (in 2900xl/3500xl case) will learn it voice vlan
through CDP from the switch, verify it by going to cisco ip phones "settings"
>> "network configuration" >> "Operational VlanID". Operational VlanID should
have a vlan id. This vlan ID is learned through CDP from the switch. Makes
sense?

Ok. Let me see if I understand.
Does this solutoin as you have described, allow for
the Class of Service bit field to be set ? which the
switch will treat the phone and the data endpoint
differentially ?
Thanks,
Armand
