Jake,

I feel your pain. But there's not too much you can do to change a company's culture. With your 4-digit number, I know you're good, you know the stuff and much more capable than those without a number but only so-called " x years of experience".
You need to go find a new job that treats you well and right, so do I ...

I know it can be done, but the commands are obviously a little different... I just
re-imaged 26 out-of-the-box SUP2/MSFC2's they shipped in because they prefer to use
hybrid over native at my company. We are taking an in-house "Dual SUP" class next week,
so I'll let you know if I learn anything worthwhile. But it will be in hybrid mode so
it's probably of little use to your particular question.

Good luck,

Jake

P.S., I had a guy with 7 years of experience try to convince me he could TFTP an image
into a switch through the console connection (only connection he had) between his laptop
and switch. The same week, I had a Cisco SE (sales engineer) ask me how to turn on a 6500
(Only LAB RATS get to reboot and re-image hardware on a whim), He was only with Cisco for
2 years. A few weeks before that, I showed the most senior WAN team member at my work how
to debug ip packet and the syntax for extended access lists. I could go on and on... the
value of experience varies on a spectrum, from guys supporting a stable network on one
end, and short-term consultants doing system redesign and integration on the other. The
sad part is, I'm the only CCIE and I make the least out of all 3 of these guys.
Apparently, hiring managers seem to be leaning on the experience side of this argument,
to hell with all objective measures of knowledge. But, I don't want to spark another
thread.... this debate is as old as the cert itself, so I'll shut up. Peace.
