3550 supports igmp snooping.
it does not support cgmp client version of the code, but it does support
cgmp server version of code.
enable cgmp on the interfac that connects to cgmp client mode enabled layer
2 cat switches. on layer 2 cat kits, cgmp is enabled by default.
look at 3550 as a router..its easy to understand it that way.
cheers! sen

Subject: CGMP compatibility mode on 3550?
Group,
I was going over the 3550 documentation to make sure I was familiar with
the similar functionality between it and a 5000.
I thought in order to make the 3550 act like a layer 2 device with only
CGMP all I had to do was enable it at the interface I wanted CGMP to run
on. After reading the documentation on this I am not so sure. I don't
have a 3550 to test this on so I am looking for someone to help me out
to either confirm or disprove what I was thinking.
The documentation says to only enable it on a layer 3 interface
connected to a layer 2 Catalyst switch? This is what has lead me to
question what I was thinking would be a compatible mode of operation.
This is found under the URL that follows in subsection "Enabling CGMP
Server Support".
Anyone have any ideas on this?
