I got that same excellent book. I think it will help me with my
endeavor towards the CCIE lab exam especially with the change out of the
switch. I am glad that there is an all in one surprisingly thin (636
page) book on the IOS based commands, spanning tree, and multicasting
that I can reference since I am going up again to San Jose to donate
another $1250 next month.

Subject: OT-Great 3550 info source!
I recently scored a good book for getting acquainted with the 3550 and
many of its features. It covers the Cat-OS and other IOS-Based switches
too, but it gives a good going over of multilayer switching. It's
actually a Cisco Networking Academy coursebook...here are the details:
Multilayer Switching Companion Guide
By Wayne Lewis
ISBN: 1587130335
I think fellow CCIE wanna-be's would be mostly interested in the
IOS-Based switch subsections in each of the chapters--where it has
examples using commands from the 3550. I think the following chapters
have sections with GREAT info that hopefully will be useful for me with
the upcoming changes just around the corner:
Chapter 3 - Switch Administration
Chapter 4 - Introduction to VLANs
Chapter 5 - Spanning-Tree Protocol
Chapter 6 - Inter-VLAN Routing
Chapter 8 - Hot Standby Router Protocol
Chapter 9 - Multicasting
Chapter 10 - Security
I saw it on Amazon (used) for 50$ after I paid over $60. If you have a
great deal of experience with the 3550 it may not be extremely helpful
(read: worth the money)...but I don't have much multilayer switching
experience so it's helping me out a great deal. Later, Frank
