You stated not 100% - I'm presuming that some packets get through. Based
on this assumtion, I would start by checking that the duplex setting on
R5 and the connecting interface on the 3500 are set to full, speed to
100 and on R3, that the port on the 3500 is set to half duplex

Sho int fas 1/0 would show you the speed and duplex settings on R5

Hi,

Ping is never 100% successful betweek two routers
connected via a switch (3500). Both are part of vlan
300.

Here is my setup:

R5(fa1/0)-------cat3500xl------(e0/2)R3
172.16.135.5 172.16.135.3

Everything is pretty straight-forward. Suspecting cef,
I turned it off on R5. R3 is not running cef by
default.

We should be able to ping between fa and eth
interfaces right? Please help. I'm totally lost now.
