Errol,
Two books you asked about are excellent (another one too):
(1) Cisco Certification: Bridges, Routers, and Switches for CCIEs, 2nd
Edition
Caslow & Pavlichenko
ISBN 0130903892
Guides you through the basic setup for all major topics you need to learn.
Great place to start (in fact, this is the BEST). Later, you'll need
comprehensive multi-protocol scenarios.
NOTE: They have a companion book due out soon: Cisco Bridging, Switching,
and Routing Illustrated: Layer 2/3 Switching, Mpls, and Traffic Engineering
(2) Cisco CCIE Lab Practice Kit
Satterlee & Hutnik
ISBN 007212766X
Has six multi-protocol scenarios. Very good. Later you'll need more
challenging scenarios.
(3) CCIE Practical Studies, Volume 1
Karl Solie
ISBN 1587200023
Guides you through all the technologies; deeper than Caslow and Pavlichenko,
but not as easy to read. Has five complex multi-protocol scenarios;
solutions are on the web. NOTE: this book has many errors that are
frustrating. However, the scenarios are excellent and, for the price, this
is a very useful book.
(4) MOST IMPORTANT: buy some good scenarios (such as ipexpert.net, hello
computers.com, ccbootcamp.com, etc.). They're expensive (around $500 each),
but really challenge you on the right topics. I'm very happy with
ipexpert.net; not so happy with ccbootcamp.com (but other people like them);
haven't tried hello computers.
HTH, Kym
