I have seen multi-service & AVVID TAC members in Cisco use csim start for
troubleshooting their cases.
I haven't had any problems with CSIM START (so far) myself.
If you want something simple and easy comparable to PING, CSIM is a good
tool.

                    I don't know if the csim start command is foolproof or
not . I have done labs where you cannot place the call with csim start but
if you place the call with the handset , it goes through just fine . Just
wondering....
