The cable between the cable modem and the cisco router should be straight
through? shouldn't it? Please clarify/

Just a suggestion: try inserting a hub or switch between the cable modem and
the router. I can't offer anything other than a guess as to why this has
worked for me in the past when a crossover didn't, but my guess would be
it's a matter of who does what when and then gives up in certain half-duplex
situations.

I have tested different version of IOS on a 1605R with Motorola Cable
Modem. Some times work some times don't. Finally, I just put the IP
once came from the dhcp server to the interface as static:-). Later on,
I tried the dhcp again and lost that IP (that IP did not work as a
static any more), then I connected my PC and get another IP address
again to put to the interface as static.

I did try many time to reboot the modem and the router according to the
ISP, it need to wait about 90 seconds to power up the modem. No
indication of that action effect any thing even I put the dhcp server
IP address from the PC to the router.

I am wondering if Cisco IOS has a command something like Microsoft's
ipconfig /renew or /release. That probably would help.

Thanks,

Song
