Joe,
You'll get this error when you try to put in a neighbor statement to an
IP address that is assigned to the local router.

R11#sho ip int bri e0

R11#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
R11(config)#router bgp 10
R11(config-router)#neighbor 10.1.1.1 remote-as 10

R11(config-router)#neighbor 10.1.1.2 remote-as 10

Subject: BGP over GRE Tunnel

Hi All. Weird problem I can't seem to figure out.

I am trying to set up a Lab scenario (specifically Lab 51 in the Cisco
CCIE
Lab Study Guide by Hutnik and Satterlee) and keep running into a
problem. The
way my lab is cabled (I work on it remotely) I am missing an extra
serial
interface needed for a BGP Confederations exercise. I figured it would
be
easy to just substitute a GRE Tunnel interface for the serial line (I
have
been able to do this for IGP setups with ease). I am using a /30 just
as you
would any serial link but when I try to configure the neighbor statement
I get
the error "cannot configure local system as neighbor." I have checked
teh
addressing and tried to use the tunnel though both Ethernet and Serial
interfaces with the same result.

Any insight on this?

Joe
