I think the original intent of the post is in reference to Catalyst
configuration during the period between September and November. Cisco will
begin replacing the 5500/6500 switches in the lab with 3500 switches
beginning September 1st, but not incorporating the specialized layer 3
options into the labs until November 4th.
My understanding is the lab content will remain the same during the hardware
transition, but you might need to configure requirements originally designed
for the 5500/6500 on the 3550. In other words you might have a 3550 or a
5500 in your rack when you arrive during the transition period.
After September 1, you will need to know the IOS as well as the CatOS for
the lab. After November 4th you better know how to configure the specialized
layer 3 stuff on the 3550.

Spanning three, trunking, vlans, crb, irb, etc.
Anything layer two that you can do on router, you can do on 3550.

another shot at it . I am really confused about what will be there in

SO what are features common to both the 5000 and 3550 . One is a L2

running CAT OS and the other is a L3 device running IOS . Does someone

to explain ?
