Dear Dave,

Thanks. My question is seem switch's ports are connected to other devices.
The port ip address is mainly determinated at connected side. So if router
protocols are running over switch, then for each port of connected switch
port within the same vlan the routing protocol is actually running on the
ports, for example sending broadcast to connected ports, or running over
vlan to vlan?

  I'm not sure exactly what your asking but here is the config off my
lab 3550-L3. I have a trunk, couple of switchport interfaces and a VLAN

  I also upgraded it yesterday to see how htat works. Was no problem.
