That is providing you are getting a copper T1. Up here in the civilized
north we get fiber t1s. Just kidding! The demark is the smart jack, so it is
4 wire. The csu/dsu is 4 wire, so it is 4 wire at the CPE. It does not
really matter to this discussion what is behind the smart jack. After all we
are talking about t1 crossovers at the CPE.

This is usually only true from your dsu. The phone company can and does (in
much of the Bell South territory if not all) run only 2 wires into the
building per T-1 into the smart jack. From there it is 4 wire.
