Of course, every company would like to hire CCIEs with 5 years experience,
but they're expensive. If you were the manager looking for a couple good
network folks, and your budget was low, which applicant would you want:
(1) CCNP, no experience.
(2) CCNA, 5 years good experience
(3) CCIE, no experience.
The last two look equally attractive to many companies. It certainly
doesn't hurt to have your CCIE. Some companies get big discounts if they
have CCIEs on their staff, so they have extra incentive to hire CCIEs.
We just filled two openings and our best applicants were from the first two
categories. I would have loved to see applications from the third
category.
In the future, the #3 applicant will become the dream applicant with CCIE
and years of experience. In the future, #2 will still be #2 unless he gets
his CCIE.
