Ok guys, I spoke to my instructor. It was not clear in the directions, but
the lab had a section that said to advertise a loopack interface (via
redistribution) into BGP. The part that wasn't clear was BGP, because it
looks like it could have been just as easily interpreted as OSPF. Anyway as
you can probably already guess, the next step was to advertise the 135.3.0.0
subnet to the backbone via the aggregate-address command. This prevents the
need for a network command, a static route to null, or any further
redistribution.
By the way, he confirmed that there are only two ways to get new routes
sourced into BGP. That is the network command and redistribution. The
aggregate-address command is a close third, but you need at least one subnet
in the BGP table or it won't work.
