Yes, read it.
A trained monkey could do step 1 thru step 555 in linear sequence. The
test is about reading between the lines, to understand what the test
writer wants from you.
In fact, I personally plan to read the entire test beginning at the last
page to first page. I find it's harder to hide assumptions (yours and
the test writer's) when things are read in reverse order.
That's just me.
