The answer is "it depends". Depends on the type of GBIC you are using
and the type of fiber. As long as 70 km with ZX-GBICs and Dispersion
shifted fiber, and as litle as 220 meters with 62.5 micron fiber and
SX-GBICs.

Subject: OT: Span lengths for GigE over fiber...
Hi all,
Does anybody know what type of span lengths are achievable in a Cisco
network that's running GigE over fiber? (I believe the nomenclature is
1000BaseX)
Thx
