OT: FBI apparently values Cisco certification (CCNP and CCIE)

I was looking at CCIE jobs on Monster and noticed an FBI special agent ad. I d
on't qualify for this, because I just turned 37, and you need to have not reach
ed 37 on appointment, but I saw neat things in the ad.

There are different tracks for entry as a Special Agent. One is the CS track,
in which you need to have a CS degree or engineering degree or something like t
hat, OR ANY BA or BS combined with CCNP or CCIE.

No other certs were mentioned. Just Cisco. It is almost the only job ad where
I have seen CCNP recognized as being so valuable. You know what I mean. Usua
lly, the ads say, vendor cert is helpful or required, and they mention CCNA or
CCIE, as if the person who wrote the ad had never heard of the CCNP, and probab
ly thought the CCIE is just a little harder than the CCNA.

This is a very good sign for those of us who have chosen to pursue Cisco certs.
I have heard that sometimes the gov't will let certs like MCSE and CCNA substi
tute for a certain amount of experience to meet minimum prereqs, but I did not
know that a CCNP or CCIE would help to cure the defect of lacking a CS or engin
eering degree, so a liberal arts major (or lawyer) can at least be considered f
or a networking job.

If you are an engineer with tons of industry experience, and the Cisco certs, w
ell, you are still the star, so please don't feel threatened by those of us wit
h misspent youths in law or accounting or business who just want to be able to
be considered for jobs as your apprentice.
