I worked with a lady at Cisco in '97 that never touched a Cisco router
before starting to study for her CCIE and she passed the lab in 3
months. Of course all she did for the 3 months was study for the lab.
Did I mention that she had many years with 3Com experience under her
belt? ;-) That does tend to make a difference.

It took me less than 12 months from CCNA to CCIE. Since I have an MS in
Computer Science and a BS in Electrical Engineering, the theoritical
concepts have already been engrained in me. 15 years in the IT and
networking industry also helped a lot. These allowed me to get my CCIE
in what I think is a relatively short time. My next goal is CCIE
Security in 4 - 6 months. Once again, I will rely on good thoughtful
answers from this list. Thanks everyone.
Now, off to better opportunities. If anyone knows of any good CCIE
opportunities, I would appreciate them sending it my way. I am willing
to relocate to any city if the opportunity is worth it. Otherwise, I
prefer Atlanta, Nashville, or Memphis opportunities. I have no salary
requirements except that it be industry standard.
