Thomas,

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/iosw/tech/carat_wp.htm

There is a formula in there to calculate normal & extended burst based on
the configured rate.

Subject: Rate limit burst values

> What is the connection between the brust values and the rate limit bps
value. In the Hutnik & Saterlee final lab scenarios the rate limits are
rate limit 200000 12000 12000, rate limit 96000 16000 16000, and rate limit
496000 24000 24000. There does not seem to be any rigid formula for
choosing the burst values that would explain the values shown above. Any
guidelines would be appreciated.

values, where the bc value essentially sets your time interval. I don't
know why the time intervals are all over the place, rather than a nice
standard time interval of 8 times per second.)
