Subject: RE: ATM SVC Config & 3Com-ATM-Switch
I see, so using your example, on the 3com atm switch I will set these:
Switch prefix: 47.00000000003C0000A0000000.XXXXXXXXXXXX.XX
Port 3.1 Prefix: 47.00000000003C0000A0000000.0031XXXXXXXX.XX <--connect to
r15
Port 3.2 Prefix: 47.00000000003C0000A0000000.0032XXXXXXXX.XX <--connect to
r16
Using your example again, on the attached routers themselve:
Should r15 esi-portion match port 3.1 esi 0031XXXXXXXX.XX ?
Should r16 esi-portion match port 3.2 esi 0032XXXXXXXX.XX ?

The ports will have a prefix that begins with the switches prefix
"47.00000000003C0000A0000000."
For example:
Switch prefix: 47.00000000003C0000A0000000.XXXXXXXXXXXX.XX
Port 3.1 Prefix: 47.00000000003C0000A0000000.0031XXXXXXXX.XX
Port 3.2 Prefix: 47.00000000003C0000A0000000.0032XXXXXXXX.XX
This is just an example.
BTW. That model of switch defaults to that prefix. You will want to change
it if you plan to run PNNI.

Subject: RE: ATM SVC Config & 3Com-ATM-Switch
Thanks John,
I appreciate any help you can give me on this:
When I do "show atm ilmi-status" from ANY of the routers attahced to the
3com atm switch, it gives me the prefix 47.00000000003C0000A0000000. This
is what I am using for the full nsap addresses in my config. You're saying
I need to manually setup 2 prefixes, one for each port on the 3com atm
switch? Will this be any arbitrary prefix? What about the one already on
the switch? Does it mean I just need one more prefix? I will fool around
with switch and see if I can find where the prefixes are set.
Thanks again.

Are you sure the NSAP is correct? On that model switch it is necessary to
configure a prefix on each port to support SVCs if it is not configured for
NNI. You will need to use NSAP addresses that fall within the range
specified by a prefix. There will be a separate prefix per port.
On the switch: Login and select the CON menu. I believe its option 3. There
should be a section where you can add and verify your addresses per port. If
they are not setup you will have to do so.
Hope that helps

I am using only one 3com atm switch. I add "atm pvc 2 0 16 ilmi" still not
working.

You will need a PVC 16 on each ATM interface.
example:
atm pvc 2 0 16 ilmi
