I will put it this way why do we use dialer map or
dialer string

we use dialer string when we want to dial to only one
router
and dialer map when we wnat to dial to diffrent
routers based on ip address

now that is dialer string is like a Point-to point
innterface
and a dialer map is like a multipoint interface

so now go to your frame relay saga why cant u ping
your physical interface ip address

no come back to your isdn try using a dialer map with
your own interface ip address and u will be able to
ping your own ip address but that will also make a
call
