RE: How to change route from O to IA in OSPF?

I haven't read the RFC in a while but generally preference only comes into
play for equal cost routes. All cost being equal then the preference order
would decide which route to use. From the original post he only wanted to
influence which route r2 was using. Changing the IA to O is a different
issue. The O and IA aren't the relevant issue. The fact that by default
the serial links in question both have the same bandwidth is the relevant
point. If you want to change the IA to O, change the area that the
interface is participating in.

Q: How can I give preference to OSPF inter-area routes over intra-area
routes?

A. According to RFC, the order of preference for OSPF routes are as follows:

intra-area routes, O
inter-area routes O IA
external routes type 1, O E1
external routes type 2, O E2

Joe,

Was looking at ur diagram.By default OSPf will prefer
the O path over IA path.If u change ur bandwidth on
serial link to reflect the 64K which ur figure says,it
should work.Does that sound correct ?

Let us know.HTH.
