Steve,

I agree, we don't HAVE to use Bandwidth command, but we can use it
to -statically- allocate different bandwidth (other than default 64K) to
influence the way Load-threshold command calculates the percentage that we
specify at the end of the command.

Also my understanding (from Cisco Doco)is when "PPP Multilink" is used
bandwidth is dynamically allocated, while if we config w/o PPP Multilink we
can use static bandwidth allocation using "Bandwidth" command.

I am not sure about another vendor.

If any body else can confirm or deny these allegations please let us know.

Cheers
Ya

Yakout

I have found this also, however I don't think you need the bandwidth
statement on the interface to use load-threshold, the router knows that BRI
= 2 x 64 and 1 x 16 so it should monitor that link utilisation and bring up
the second channel when necessary.

I think PPP Multilink maybe usefull when connecting to another vendors
device (i.e non cisco)

Thanks

Steve

Subject: ISDN PPP Multilink

Hi all,

I have a concept problem with PPP Multilink in BRI Interface.

Cisco Documentation states:

1) Don't have to use "PPP Multilink" to bring up the second BRI link when
needed, only "dialer load-threshold <n>" command is enough to do that, and
in this case we have to use "bandwidth" command to specify the interface
bandwidth so that Load-threshold can cancalculate the load on the first link
before bringing up the second one.

2) If we use "PPP Multilink" command, "dialer load-threshold 1 " command can
no longer bring up both links

My findings contradict all that.

No difference between configuring "PPP Multilink" or not, I can still bring
up the other link by only using "dialer load-threshold <n>"

I must be missing the point, can any body share views on this one.

Appreciate your help in advance.

Cheers from beautiful Sydney

Ya
