Not as far off as you might think. When I first starting doing Cisco
training, we primarily used 4000 series routers with some 2500s. I
had gotten used to sticking a couple under my arm and walking away.

Then, I was out at Cisco and put my hands on my first fully populated
7000, and tried to pick it up it the same way. Almost flipped me on
my head.

But to go back to your original point, what if you substituted
variable-strength bungee cords for the cables?
