Since it seems there's some interest in this OT conversation, I'll share my
recent experience...
I got laid off late last year and decided to take advantage and study full
time to get my number rather than look for a job right away. I got my
number in February and I have a very good depth of experience (5 years
networking, 10 years IT), a good looking resume (or so I'm told), and I'm
having a VERY hard time getting any response from my search so far. I have
experience with Windows NT and 2000, Linux, Unix, Cisco (of course),
firewalls, load balancers, web servers, dns, etc, etc, etc... While I know
the market is far from being good, I was hoping to get a little better
response than this.
Hopefully the economy and the market for networkers improves soon because it
certainly is tougher out there than I've seen in years. If it doesn't I
guess I can always put my CCIE number on my name tag while I wait tables.

WARNING: Shameless groveling follows....
If anyone has a lead for an experienced Sr. Network Engineer/Architect
opportunity in the Atlanta, GA area (up to 25% travel ok, contract or
perm)... one who has very reasonable salary expectations and excellent
references... please drop me a line! I'd be forever in your debt!
Dennis

Subject: OT: CCIE Market Lately?
I know that this kind of question sometimes leads to a long, dumb thread,
but I am curious whether those passing the lab in the last 6 months
(congrats to all) have benefitted in promotions, raises, or vertical job
moves. Last I heard it was tough and a lot of CCIEs were taking what they
could get or staying put. I am curious because I have my lab coming up (2nd
attempt) and my company isn't doing so well. A few notes:
1. Yes I have noticed that the job boards don't seem to have much
2. Yes I know that CCIE is not the only factor in getting a new job
3. If you don't mind, reply directly to me so that I don't get my chops
busted for starting a lame OT thread.
Thanks a million. I am getting nervous about this whole thing.
Matt
