Well well well... my turn to post finally. Passed on second attempt
in RTP on Saturday. Although I made it on try #2, it was a long journey. I
studied for over 800 hours in my lab for my first try in early February, and
obviously failed. Not because of the technology, but because I didn't read
and pay attention to detail. From this I learned the most important lesson,
once you know your stuff... you must then focus on passing the test (not
just getting things working). Saturday I started out horribly! Took almost
an hour to get 3 routers talking at layer 2. I did not pay attention to
detail in the diagram. I considered walking out at this point, thinking
there was no was that I could finish this test having already wasted so much
time. I decided not to, and refocused my energy into knocking out the rest
of the test, sans mistakes. I ended up finishing unbelievably with 2 hours
to spare, where I checked and rechecked my work (fixing many small
problems). Got the E-mail Sunday, and to be honest it still is sinking in
that this journey is over. For a year straight I got up 2:30 am and studied
for 4 hours before work each day. I have had no CCIE level classes, and I
had to pay for everything myself. Anyone getting this E-mail will quickly
notice that I am in the USAF, and they don't care if I'm a CCIE or a SOB, as
long as I can put out the fires. This was all for me, and I am so happy I
was able to do it.
Thanks to all of my friends who were so supportive (and who knew not
to call me to go out on weekends), and my girlfriend who did everything for
me to make sure I got the maximum amount of study time possible. I'll have
to go through some old photos to make sure I still recognize her:) My (long
distance) study partner who I studied with over Instant Messenger, I know
you'll be posting in June! Thanks to Paul for hosting this list, it has
been invaluable for me. (Briefly getting on soapbox) For over a year I have
been on the list and have found the solution to each and every problem I
have ever had in the archives (be it cabling or complex reg-expressions).
There are some incredibly smart people on this list and rest assured that
you are not the first one to have problemXYZ. A well worded search and bam,
you got your answer (hint hint). I now find myself with an incredible
amount of spare time, and stuck waking up everyday waaay to early... so I
guess I need to figure out what normal people do with their spare time.
Maybe I'll research it on the internet:) Best of luck to all of you, in the
end it will all be worth it.
