Buddy: Specify ring speed on each token ring interface (16
recommended). Also check you're not in the ring-out/ring end positions
(end holes in the 8228). Change ports.
Do a show interface on each router, and show controller to make sure you
are inserted and not beaconing. You don't have to assign Active
Monitor. Mail me separately if still having problems.
Cheers, Fred.

I have a 2502 connected to an IBM 8228 MAU which is connected to another 2502.
The Token ring interfaces on both routers are up/up. The configuration is lik
e this.

terface of the remote router I get nada. Debug IP packet show encapsulation fa
iled messages so I figured arp was not working. I configured static arp and th
e encapsulation failed messages went away but then the packet just gets sent in
to a black hole. Leaves the router interface but never arrives at the remote r
outer which is on the same ring. I have changed cables and changed MAU's. I h
ave even used the MAU Lobe tool (or whatever you call it) and every port seemed
ok. (the red light went out after a few seconds and I could hear the relay cli
ck in and out). I have never setup tokenring so I do not know what could be wr
ong. Do you have to configure a router as the Active Monitor or something. Al
so show CDP neighbor reveals nothing. Obviously the packet is not traversing t
he ring from one router to the other but I cannot figure this one out. Any Ide
as? Thanks.
