I concur with John. Additionally these problems may be version specific.
As soon as you use PPP try to get your authentication issues ironed out.
Basically do whatever it takes o make it work. This may require pap/chap,
username/passwords and/or chap hostname/passwords.

In my experience, I have always had to use
some sort of authentication to get PPP over
ISDN to work correctly. I've spoken with
others who have more experience than I and
they've reported the same types of issues.
I've since made it my standard policy to
*always* use authentication on ISDN and I
haven't had those sorts of problems since.
