Dynamic routing over aux.

I was playing with two aux ports directly connecting to each other via a rollov
er cable & I was only able to make it route over them with statics.

I looked under the documentation & it says "To enable manually configured routi
ng on an asynchronous interface, use the async dynamic routing interface config
uration command. Use the no form of this command to disable routing protocols;
static routing is still used.".

The "static routing is still used" part is what caught my eye.

I noticed with RIP is would never try to send anything over the async interface
 & with OSPF under show ip ospf int is said "No Hellos (Passive interface)".

I tried all the routing protocols to no avail.

Unfortunately the only way I could get a dynamic protocol to go across it was w
ith a tunnel interface.

Worked fine this way.

Is this normal operation for aux based async interfaces, or do I just have code
 issues?

Thanks,
Dan
