The CCIE lab posts their CAT5000 will be loaded with version 4.5. The
highest you can go with a Sup I engine is version 4.x. So as long as they
don't go to version 5 it should work great for you.
What I would be concerned with is the modules included, and the ports on the
sup engine. If you get one of those Sup I's with 2 MMF 100Mbps eth ports on
it you'll need a 10/100 module in order to do trunking & router on a stick,
that is unless you have a router with an MMF ethernet interface.
